ABOUT THIS PRODUCT:

The Moon Jellyfish or Aurelia aurita is a cosmopolitan jellyfish that is distributed in all seas and oceans except for the polar circles.

Its umbrella is surrounded by hundreds of filamentous tentacles and although it is usually transparent, depending on its genetics and/or diet, it often acquires bluish or reddish tones.

It is a non-photosynthetic jellyfish, so it depends entirely on the prey it captures to develop.

It makes constant pulsating movements with which, in addition to moving around, it forces the water around it to pass between its tentacles, retaining the zooplankton that comes into contact with them.

It must be kept in a jellyfish tank or aquarium specifically for jellyfish.

Their life expectancy is around 12 months.

Keys to successful maintenance:
Regarding the lighting:
It is not strictly necessary for its maintenance, so it can be combined with colored lights to create visual effects.

Regarding their diet:
For optimal development, a daily supply of live nauplius is recommended (1-2 times a day).

To make things easier, JellyFarmer has tested several foods that meet the nutritional needs of these animals. There are various solutions, from hatching brine shrimp to adding inert commercial feeds. You can find more information in the feed section of our store.

Regarding the water parameters:
They are more resistant than fish in terms of nitrogen compound concentration, temperature drops and salinity increases.

On the contrary, like almost all cnidarians, they are more sensitive to sudden drops in salinity and very high temperatures.

Specifically, this species of jellyfish is a cold-water organism, so we recommend keeping it without a heater and controlling temperature increases in climates with hot summers. Regarding its danger:
Its sting is mild except in cases of hypersensitivity (in most cases it is not even perceived), even so, at JellyFarmer we recommend the use of gloves when handling it.

Regarding its compatibility with fish and corals:
It is not compatible with other organisms or other jellyfish.
