Coral Sea, from Gulf of Papua and Solomon Islands, and east to Samoa and Tonga. It occurs on open rubble and boulder habitats at depths 0f 9-20m, but most common at about 12m. Identified by the bright yellow colour overall and normally features a prominent elongate black streak along much of the soft dorsal fin, offset by an irridescent blue margin. The amount of black is variable and ranges from a spot at the end to the entire length of the soft dorsal fin. In the Solomon Islands some large males featured a very extensive large black area and a more orange head. Length to at least 12cm.
