Northwestern Pacific (the Marianas, Bonins and recently photographed in Hachijoh-jima Island, Izu Islands). Occurs in outer reef habitats from shallow lagoons to a depth of about 56m. Colour mainly orange to orange-yellow with dark unpaired fins and narrower, short vertical bars on side. The bars are fewer in number in juvenile stages. Often with a dark blotch behind upper gill cover. Length to 12cm.
