Eastern Indian Ocean, mainly in the Andaman Sea, ranging to the Maldives and northern Sumatra. In Sri Lanka it occurs on shallow rubble areas and reef edges to a depth of about 20m, but in the Maldives the depth range is 20-40m, where on rubble with sessile invertebrates. A dark looking species with a metallic blue shiny pattern of vertical bars on the body and anal fin. pale yellow pectoral fins, and thin blue margins on the median fins. Length to 10cm.
